First, you have to login internet banking, and select [Digital Certificate] under [Customer Services] function. Then you select [Registration] button to register your e-certificate. Afterwards, you may use your e-certificate to transact designated transactions.

According to the guidance note issued by the HKMA, when providing internet banking service, bank should allow its customers to transact high-risk transactions through the internet banking only upon two-factor authentication. In other words, customers without e-certificate or SMS one-time password will not be able to transact high-risk transactions via internet banking. Currently, high-risk transactions include:

1. bill payment to banking and credit card services, credit services and securities brokers;
2. funds transfer to unregistered account (via TT/CHATS/Electronic Clearing Transfer /intra-bank account);
3. change of statement mailing instruction;
4. opening of deposit account and;
5. personal information amendment (single name account only).

No, you can't. Each customer can only register one e-certificate. If you use another e-certificate, the new certificate will replace the old one.

Each account holder can register his/her own e-certificate in internet banking  service. Those who do not register their e-certificates, are not allowed to transact  designated transactions in internet banking.

You should renew your e-certificate through the Certification Authority within one month before the expiry date. After renewal, you should check whether the serial number of your e-certificate has changed. If it has changed, you should select [Digital Certificate] under [Customer Services] menu and select [Registration] button to register your new e-certificate.

If you have input a wrong password five consecutive times, your e-certificate will be suspended. You are required to visit Hong Kong Post to apply for a new one.

8.  What is i-Key?

I-Key is a key-shaped storage media, which is small in size and easy to carry, used to store your e-certificate (Personal/ Bank-Cert). Each i-Key can store two e-certificates. After you had imported the e-certificates to your i-Key, you could access two e-certificates with one password only.

You insert your i-Key into the USB slot of your computer; the green LED of the i-Key will light if your i-Key is properly installed.

The minimum system requirements are as follows:  

1. CPU:      Pentium 133 or above;  

2. RAM:      32MB or above;

3. O/S:       Windows NT, 95, 98, ME, 2000, XP or Vista;

4. Browser:   Netscape Navigator 4.08/ Communicator 4.5 or above/ Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01or above;

5. Encryption:  128 bit or above;

6. HD Free Space: 100MB or above
